About Akoura
Akoura is one of the oldest villages in History. A proof of that is the thousands of years old road carved in the rocky mountains to the eastern side according to many local and foreign archaeologists.
Akoura is the origin of the Maronite Catholics (more than 90% of all maronite families originate from Akoura) in Lebanon, after Ibrahim, the pupil of St. Maroun started his missionary in the pagan mountains of Mount Lebanon, in Akoura to be precise (hence the renaming of Adonis River to River of Ibrahim - or Nahr Ibrahim -)
Akoura is the largest village in Lebanon with an area of about 5.5% of Lebanon's area.
Akoura is the source of large quantities of water and countless springs.
It is believed that it's the area where it rains most in the Middle East.
